How this app rank checker works

Type your app’s name, pick a keyword and a country, and the checker runs a live search against the store you selected — the same search a user in that country would run — then finds your app’s position in the results. On the App Store we scan roughly the top 200 results; Google Play publicly exposes only about the top 30, so an Android app outside that window shows as “outside the top 30” rather than a made-up number. Many rank trackers quietly estimate in that situation — we’d rather tell you the truth.

What your keyword rank actually means

Your rank shows where this search found your app. It does not measure search volume, taps, or installs. Check that the keyword describes your app accurately, review its placement in your metadata, and consider relevant additional storefront languages when choosing other markets to monitor. If your app was not found within the search depth, review the keyword’s difficulty score alongside its relevance before deciding to target it.

Rankings also move constantly: store algorithm updates, competitor releases, and review velocity all shift positions week to week. To compare those changes over time, AppDrift’s keyword tracking includes 5 tracked keywords with daily updates on the Free plan. Use your store console’s impressions and downloads to assess whether changes in visibility also affect acquisition.

Looking for a chart position rather than a search rank? The category rank checker shows where an app sits in its category’s Top Free, Paid and Grossing charts across countries. To see which searches a competitor already appears in, use the competitor keyword finder.

Rank checker FAQ

How do I check my app's ranking for a keyword?

Search for your app by name in the checker above, enter the keyword you want to check, pick the store (App Store or Google Play) and country, and hit Check rank. The tool runs a live search against that store — the same search a real user would run — and reports your app's exact position in the results, alongside the current top 10.

Is this app store rank checker free?

Yes, completely free with no signup required. You can check any app — including competitors — for any keyword in 60+ storefronts. Create a free AppDrift account to track 5 keywords for 1 app with automatic daily updates. Paid plans add higher keyword limits and monitoring features.

How deep does the rank check go?

On the Apple App Store the check scans roughly the top 200 search results. On Google Play, the public search used by this checker returns about the top 30 results, so an Android app outside that window is reported as "outside the top 30". This is the checker's visibility limit; it does not tell you how many installs the keyword produces.

Why does my app's rank differ from other tools?

Rankings vary by country, device, and time — the stores personalize and re-rank results constantly, and different tools check from different regions at different moments. This checker runs a fresh, unpersonalized store search for the exact country you select, which is the closest thing to ground truth available. Repeated checks within a few days may also be served from a short-lived cache.

What is a good keyword rank for an app?

A higher position makes your app easier to find for that search, but rank alone does not measure installs. Look at keyword relevance and search demand, then compare rank changes with the impressions and downloads reported by your store console. Track the same keyword and country over time before judging an update.

How often do app store rankings change?

Daily, and sometimes hourly. Store algorithm updates, competitor metadata changes, review velocity, and download trends all move rankings continuously. A one-off check is a snapshot — to catch drops before they cost installs and to measure whether a metadata update worked, ranks need to be tracked every day.
