Screenshot practices
Use PNG or JPEG. Apple accepts both; Google Play accepts JPEG and 24-bit PNG. Neither accepts an alpha channel or transparency.
Match an accepted size exactly. App Store Connect rejects anything else, and scaling up makes text look soft.
Put your strongest benefit in the first screenshots — they are the ones that appear in search results.
Localize caption text for your key markets. Captions are the part of a screenshot people actually read.
Keep captions large enough to read on a phone; check them at the size they appear in search.

App Store and Google Play Screenshot Dimensions
A screenshot in the wrong size is one of the most common reasons an App Store Connect upload fails. Both stores publish exact rules, and they differ by device and store. This page lists them in one place, checked against the stores’ own documentation on September 24, 2026.
For the App Store, the key iPhone size in 2026 is the 6.9-inch display: 1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736 pixels. An iPhone app needs 6.9-inch screenshots, or 6.5-inch ones (1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688) if 6.9-inch aren’t provided; App Store Connect scales them for the smaller iPhone sizes, so the 6.3-, 6.1- and 5.5-inch sets are optional. An iPad app also needs 13-inch screenshots (2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732). Apple accepts one to ten JPEG or PNG screenshots per size, and images can’t include alpha channels or transparency.
Google Play accepts JPEG or 24-bit PNG without alpha, 320 to 3840 pixels per side, with the longer side no more than twice the shorter. That last rule rejects many tall phone captures: 1080 × 2340 is more than 2:1. For promotion and recommendations, Google asks for at least four phone screenshots of 1080 pixels or more in 9:16 portrait (such as 1080 × 1920) or 16:9 landscape. Tablet and Chromebook screenshots need 1,080 to 7,680 pixels per side in the same ratios.
